Diversity Matters: Companies Scoring High on Diversity

by Denene Brox, for Yahoo! HotJobs

Diversity is more than just a buzzword. Today more than ever, progressive employers see numerous benefits in creating a diverse workforce--many large companies invest time and resources in diversity initiatives. Since 2001, DiversityInc magazine has released a yearly Top 50 Companies for Diversity list, which recognizes the companies who are outstanding champions of diversity.

Each year, participating companies answer DiversityInc's 200-question survey, which measures CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications, and supplier diversity.

This year, 449 companies participated. We randomly selected four of the top 50 companies from various industries and asked what opportunities are currently open to potential employees--and there are plenty at all levels, from recent grads to seasoned professionals.

Jason Phillips, vice president of national recruitment services, notes that it's common for Kaiser Permanente employees to stay with the company for 20 years or more, even in today's mobile workforce. "I think that speaks to individuals feeling valued for the diversity that they bring," says Phillips.
